This Memorial Day Monday, Free Association (minus Ross, who was out of town) had the honor of playing at Art for Arts' Evolving Series at the Clemente Soto Velez. The theme of the night was "Evolving With Young Artists," and the bill included Sara Serpa, Thomas Morgan, Gordon Beeferman, Max Johnson, and Tyshawn Sorey (just to name a few off the top of my head)!

So, as you can probably tell, I was pretty psyched. Playing in a new environment was really refreshing, and there was even an artist there (Andre?) who painted every band (I'll post the painting of us once he sends it to me!)

Tomorrow, I'm going to Josh Roseman's studio in Williamsburg, 58N6, to record with Avi Granite's Geographic Tongue with Michael Attias (alto sax) and Evan Crane (bass). It's a brand new group that interprets graphic scores instead of reading traditional music notation. It's going to be lots of fun--more on that later.
