Hey Everyone!!

A few weeks ago, I was surprised when my friend Joe Alterman (a great pianist) posted on my Facebook wall that he read a nice lil' write-up on Free Association in Time Out NY Magazine. I was like, "Wha? I didn't know about this." But apparently we were listed in last weeks edition (along with the likes of William Parker and Joe McPhee) for our gig at KORZO. Ridiculous.

That totally made my week.

As for the gig itself, it was really awesome. The vibe in that room was really incredible, and we had a full house (at 10:30 at night!). And the band was on fire. I couldn't ask for a better group (lots of love to Ross Edwards, Jonah-Parzen Johnson, and Evan Crane). And of course, James Carney, who was a total sweetheart throughout the night.

This Tuesday, I played with Michael Attias and Evan Crane (BOTIQUIN Trio) at the Local 269. We played improvised as well as written pieces, one of which was a poem I wrote called "Language Exchange," which was more or less a spoken word piece. We got a pretty strong response to that one in particular, and I think I'll be dedicating this project to exploring the possibilities of language within the context of music.

Other news: Thursday nights at Lime Leaf are now no longer. I've decided to give myself and the crew a break from the weekly stint, at least until the Fall. On the lookout for a new stomping ground...

And some new groups I'm playing with. News on that soon!

Stay beautiful,
